Technical Writer & Software Tester
Overview
Hertzler Systems Inc., a leading provider of Statistical Process Control, Operational Intelligence, and analytic software systems to manufacturing companies, is seeking a Technical Writer and Software Tester. The right person will find an opportunity to grow with the company.
The Technical Writer and Software Tester is responsible for helping to produce materials (printed or electronic) that are created by Hertzler Systems Inc. to educate customers on the functionality and successful use of Hertzler products. This includes, but is not limited to, program manuals (whether delivered in print or in electronic form) and help files, installation instructions and shipping inserts, training manuals and eLearning materials.
The Technical Writer and Software Tester is also responsible for helping test the software packages and ensure they function properly and according to the specifications. This includes developing, documenting, and maintaining test procedures and test environments.
The Technical Writer and Software Tester may also be asked to assist with other documentation projects, such as training materials for sales and technical support staff, marketing and sales literature, and content for Hertzler’s web site.
Skills needed for Technical Writing
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and ability to multi-task
- Detail oriented, thorough, organized, and systematic
- Open-minded, customer-focused, team-player
- Knowledge and experience in communicating complex technical ideas in written form
- Experience with Adobe RoboHelp or other documentation authoring tools
- Knowledge of curriculum development
Skills needed for Software Testing
- Excellent computer skills (troubleshooting, configurations, databases, networks)
- Knowledge of programming and programming practices
Job duties
- Write documentation based on the product specifications and track project status.
- Coordinate, review and edit the work of other authors (Hertzler staff and contract writers) as needed.
- Oversee production of documentation including printing and electronic distribution.
- Help write and maintain test procedures, scripts, and data sets for software products.
- Execute test scripts, trouble-shoot and document software defects during testing.
- Establish and implement repeatable testing procedures for software products, and document results.
- Maintain test databases on Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, and Pervasive.SQL databases.
- Assist with internal training (Hertzler employees) when needed.
- Coordinate with other members of the Development team.
- Work on special projects as required.
- Document the tour data sets.
- Perform Statistical Validation.
- Other duties as required.
