Theme 1: Easier Access to Data
Three features that fall under the umbrella of Easier Access to Data are:
A. Flexible Desktops
![]() |
With Flexible Desktops, you can now select a new part number for an existing desktop. This provides more flexibility during data analysis and retrieval. It also saves time, reduces complexity and eliminates maintaining multiple desktops.
You can now build a single desktop and then apply it to any part number or group of part numbers. For example, you might have a desktop that retrieves one chart for 4 different cavities. The Flexible Desktop feature lets you assign that desktop to any part number in your list.
When opening a desktop, check the Part Number or Process box under Prompt for changes…

The Part Number List for Desktop screen will open.
- The area in the top center shows the layout of the desktop. This particular desktop has four charts.
- You can select to update all charts in the family, or just a single chart.
- The Previous items selected box lists the part numbers used the last time you opened this desktop.
- Drag and drop new part numbers from the Select Part Number List on the left into the Part Number List on the right.
B. Lot genealogy / restrict search
The new Restrict Search option lets you restrict the part number list based on either a date range or filter when you retrieve data. This makes it easier to find relevant data quickly, and makes it easier to manage data - especially in a regulated environment. Restrict is available on the Quick Chart screen (also the Chart Wizard, Chart Designer, and any other place where you can select a Part Number in SPC. The feature is not in the Defect Management System).

This new feature is useful in several situations. For example, if you want to see a list of parts that are running today, select the Restrict button at the bottom of the Quick Chart screen and then select to restrict the list of parts by date period.
Another useful situation is when you want to see data for a given material lot number or serial number. Using the Restrict List for Filter option lets you build or use any filter.
C. Interface to JMP
JMP software is a popular high-end statistics tool that is used extensively in the Six Sigma community.
If you have JMP, you can now use the new Send To… JMP command to load data directly from GainSeeker® to JMP.
