GainSeeker® Suite Version 8.1
New capabilities in GainSeeker Suite 8.1 increase value and reduce costs of data
The newest release of GainSeeker Suite is Version 8.1, launched December, 2010. Version 8.1 adds significant functionality including:
- The WebViz™ module: WebViz is a wholly new module that replaces WebSPC. In addition to delivering SPC and Defect Charts in a browser, WebViz also posts data and analysis from Enterprise Dashboard and Dynamic Reports. WebViz operates in any browser, on any platform, so it is a very mobile application. With WebViz, smart phone users can check GainSeeker Dashboards and Charts anywhere, anytime. In addition, it also provides several administrative tools for making it easier to manage GainSeeker Suite.
- New enhancements to the Dynamic Reports module: Dynamic Reports has been enhanced in several ways. The most important of these enhancements is probably the ability to group data on a Dynamic Report. Data grouping is an important enhancement to the flexibility of data reporting.
- Enhanced support of HTML capabilities during data entry: New data entry commands make it much easier to build and used custom data entry forms for data entry. This makes it much easier (cost effective) to build custom data entry forms that mimic a legacy paper system. It also makes it much easier for our consultants to deploy “Command Center” solutions for ensuring data are entered properly and on time.
- New support for OEE: We now provide a standardized format or infrastructure for collecting and reporting OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).
- a Beta version of the new .Net Charts module: The Hertzler development team is issuing a beta version of the new .Net version of GainSeeker Charting Module with v8.1. The new .Net Charting Module is a major upgrade in look and feel. The user interface and the output are very attractive, and the new module integrates SPC and Defect charts in one interface.
- Several other enhancements, including hyperlinks in operator notes, new Data Entry commands and support for Minitab 16.

Important 'fine print' for clients who are using a Pervasive (or Btrieve) Relational Database in File Mode
GainSeeker Suite users who are still using a Pervasive or Btrieve database will need to migrate to a more modern relational database such as MySQL, Microsoft SQLServer, Oracle, or Pervasive running in "Database Mode". The new modules added in 8.1 that require one of these modern databases to run are WebViz and the beta version of the .Net Charts. Additionally, the Dynamic Reports, and .Launch modules that were added in GainSeeker version 8.0 also require this type of database to run properly. Eventually all GainSeeker Suite modules will require one of these more modern relational databases. There are several options for performing this migration, and they are described in detail here.
