GainSeeker® 7.401 Maintenance Release

Description

This document lists the revisions made to GainSeeker Suite in the maintenance release 7.401. If you are currently using version 7.400 or greater and are experiencing one of the issues listed below, you may download this release. See the download instructions at the bottom of this document for running this password-protected installation. If you are not currently using version 7.400 or greater you will experience problems if you apply this release.

All modules

  1. If a user had access rights to change notes but not access rights to edit data, they could not change the note from the Edit Data window. This issue has been corrected.
  2. The data column preferences were not stored in desktops. If you changed the list of columns to appear in a data table and stored the data table in a desktop, opening the desktop showed the default columns. This issue has been corrected.
  3. When viewing a chart and selecting a user-defined font for one or more chart elements, after accepting the new font and returning to the font selection screen the new user-defined font was not displayed. This issue has been corrected.
  4. When modifying fonts or colors on a chart and saving as default to be shared with other workstations, these new default settings were not reflected on later charts. The default settings were being saved in the Data file path, but charting applications were searching for the files in the Configuration path. These default settings are now saved in the Traceability file path, and this is where charting applications look to find them. For an updated list of files that exist in each file path, see Tables used in GainSeeker 7 . This issue has been corrected.
  5. When viewing step 3 of the SPC Variation Wizard or steps 2 and 3 of the DMS Drill-Down Wizard, the highlighted item and the selected item were not always the same. This issue has been corrected.

Administration

  1. The DS_Find_[1-5]= CMS.ini settings showed up incorrectly in the Administration module. In that module, all five settings were displayed as ds_find_1=. This issue has been corrected.

SPC data entry

  1. A new option has been added to the DE_OPT template command to force the operator to enter Event, Cause and/or Action Taken information for a real-time alert. See DE_OPT for more information.
  2. When using a multi-select list in a data entry template, the focus was automatically set to the OK button. We now set the focus to an item on the list so that the arrow keys may be used to navigate the list.
  3. When deleting a stored session with very short name (fewer than eight characters), the .dss file containing the stored session information was not deleted. This issue has been corrected.
  4. The run alarm in data entry did not report runs in all cases. If the run length was set to 6 and the refresh count was set to 5, it would report four errors and not report an error for the fifth subgroup. As long as the data still qualified as a run, it would continue to report four errors and not report the fifth. This issue has been corrected.
  5. When entering a new data point that was part of a run above or below the mean, GainSeeker did not report the run as a real-time failure if all of the data values in the run were equal to each other. This issue has been corrected.
  6. When entering new subgroups that are set to Bypass, the data marker on the chart displayed the wrong symbol. GainSeeker was using the outlier marker instead of the bypass marker. This issue has been corrected.
  7. When right-clicking on a data entry chart, choosing Display Options and then changing settings on the Line Options tab, the new settings were not displayed on the chart. This issue has been corrected.
  8. In previous versions of GainSeeker , the operator could receive false real-time failures for Moving Range out of Range Gate. This could happen after a true MR failure where subsequent good readings would still result in a real-time failure. This issue has been corrected.
  9. In previous versions of GainSeeker , the Range chart would sometimes not scale the Y-axis correctly. This would happen if only one Range Gate was set. In that case, the Y-axis would always scale from 0 to 1, regardless of the Range values to be plotted on the chart. This issue has been corrected.
  10. In previous versions of GainSeeker , the R chart sometimes used an incorrect line type when a subgroup was bypassed. This issue has been corrected.
  11. In previous versions of GainSeeker , the data table columns would not change between Sigma and Moving Range when switching between Part Numbers on the Data Table tab. This issue has been corrected.
  12. In previous versions of GainSeeker running on an Oracle database, a subgroup entered that was equal to one of the specifications might show as red on the air gage. This happens because of rounding errors when retrieving the specifications from an Oracle database. Some software modifications have been made to try and check for the rounding errors but may not work in all cases.

SPC charts and reports

  1. GainSeeker now reports Ppk for non-normal processes with unilateral specifications.
  2. The Popup menu has been modified to be launched with a right click instead of a right double click on the charts. You get a subgroup specific menu if the right click is on a data marker on the control chart. In Windows 2000 and Windows XP, you must close the Popup menu before right clicking on a new subgroup or the subgroup menu will apply to the previous subgroup.
  3. The following new statistics are available in the GainSeeker Suite: Percent above Ind. Gate, Percent below Ind. Gate, Percent outside Ind. Gate, Percent inside Ind. Gate, Percent above lower Ind. Gate, Percent below upper Ind. Gate, Percent above lower Spec, Percent below upper Spec Percent above lower Gate, Percent below upper Gate
  4. When viewing a statistics table and then generating a bar chart of one of the statistics, the resulting bar chart incorrectly displayed the same label and value for each bar on the chart. This issue has been corrected.
  5. The options on the Chart Titles dialog for "Show what data is grouped by as an additional chart title" and "Label each data group on the chart" were not being saved to desktops. This issue has been corrected.
  6. Editing an arrow on the Add Text dialog sometimes generated the error "Run-time error 5: Subscript out of range". This issue has been corrected.
  7. If the startup_desktop= in the CMS.ini file is set up do something not used by the SPC Charts and Reports module, the module skipped checking the SPC_CR_Startup= CMS.ini setting. We now check the spc_cr_startup setting if the startup_desktop value does not apply to Charts and Reports.
  8. The SPC_CR_Startup= CMS.ini setting sometimes caused a dialog to open while opening a desktop. After the dialog was closed, the desktop would continue. This issue has been corrected.
  9. Using a Quick Filter on a field value of ‘%’ caused a run-time error. This issue has been corrected.
  10. The Send To / Find Application didn't work correctly when the file path contains spaces. We now put quotes around the file path if it contains spaces. Depending on the application being used, the quotes may cause problems. If you experience problems, save the file to a location where the file path does not contain spaces.

DMS charts and reports

  1. When a configuration has activated Set Nonconforming units = Defects, a p chart generated for only one defect now plots only the 'p' values for that specific defect. Previous versions always plotted the 'p' values for the entire sample, even if only data for one defect was retrieved.
  2. You can now define user access to run the Chart Title, Display Options or Legends dialogs on the Chart menu. You can also control access to the Change Report dialog on the Options menu. The rights for these dialogs can be set in the Administration module under the Define Roles section.
  3. When opening a desktop that was created in GainSeeker DMS version 6 or earlier, not all defects were displayed correctly. If the chart was stored with defects from a specific process after which the defects for that process changed, the original defects are the only ones that show on the chart. DMS now looks for the current list of defects for a process when opening a desktop.
  4. A run-time error could occur when saving a chart as a bitmap. This error would happen if the chart was maximized. This issue has been corrected.

SPC designer

  1. A new Syntax Checker has been added to verify correct command syntax in all templates listed for the current user. For more information, see Syntax Checker in the Online User Guide.

Import export manager

  1. When exporting data to an XML file, pressing the DEL key on step #2 would sometimes cause a run-time error. This issue has been corrected.

SQL utility

  1. When using the SQL Utility in Freeform SQL mode or Execute SQL Command mode to manipulate data in a SQL Server database, a query containing the ORDER BY clause on a field that is not an index sometimes generates the error message "01S02: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Cursor type changed".
  2. The SQL Utility has been modified in GainSeeker 7.401 to correct for this error, but this error may still occur in some cases. If you continue to receive this error when querying a SQL Server database through the SQL Utility, then you should use one of the SQL Server query tools to query the database instead of using SQL Utility.
