Converting your Pervasive GainSeeker® Database from File mode to Database Mode

Intro - What are we doing, and why?

Home | Forward »

Version 8 of GainSeeker is the first step in a gradual platform transfer of the entire GainSeeker suite from Visual Basic to .NET. The majority of GainSeeker programs remain in Visual Basic for Version 8, but some have been completely rebuilt from the ground up. Version 8 also includes some totally new programs, including the Dynamic Reports module, which are built entirely within the .NET framework

.NET uses software mechanisms called ADO.NET data providers to access SQL databases. ADO stands for ActiveX Data Object. There is no ADO.NET service provider available for either Btrieve databases or Pervasive databases being run in File mode. This makes it necessary for anyone on these older platforms to upgrade to Pervasive.SQL, version 9.71 or higher.

Please note that this tutorial is a do-it-yourself guide. We strongly recommend that you read through all the steps and watch the videos before beginning. Be sure you have a valid backup of your system, and that you have the appropriate server rights before making any changes.

If you decide that you are uncomfortable with the process, Hertzler offers this conversion as a service, available for a fee. For more information, please contact our Sales department at sales@hertzler.com or call us at 574-533-0571.
