Today I'm sharing three tips about how to get the most from our GainSeeker Platform Library. The GainSeeker Platform Library (aka GPL) is a collection of ideas, best practices, and tools for maximizing the value you can get from deploying GainSeeker. It is a repository of different use cases. We continually see GainSeeker implemented in new and innovative ways and want to share these ways with you.
Being in my role of Technical Project Manager, I discuss the needs and wants of our clients and help them figure out the best implementation method to continue forward. I would like to share some important things to think about. As a result, I talk about these topics all the time and I realize the fact that sometimes it is beneficial to do a "using GainSeeker status check". How are you using GainSeeker? Let me help you. Well, the Hertzler team continually listens to our customer's feedback and requests to continually provide additional functionality into the GainSeeker software.
What topic for the next Tech Tips Live would be most beneficial and relevant to our customers? After considering a bunch of ideas, we decided to focus on helping our clients move from Templates to Inspections. And get this, Byron wants to convert a working template into an Inspection right before your eyes! This will be really cool because it will give you a peek into how Byron solves problems. But even more important, it will help you on the path of moving from templates to inspections.
Greetings! Today let's talk about the Multiple Date Range feature inside GainSeeker. This little gem is super powerful. It makes looking at summary data across various time periods really easy. Want to see week over week capability for the last quarter for a key product? Piece of cake. How about day-by-day changes in the mean and spread of the process over the last two weeks? Easy. The Multiple Date Range feature makes it so easy to see what is going on in your process, and makes decision-making faster and easier.

Python scripts are here, and they are really, really cool. If you have not noticed yet, our PC Collect module continues to replace (and improve on) our "oldie, but goodie" Data Entry Module. One reason PC Collect is replacing Date Entry: you can do so much more "out-of-the-box" using the drag and drop Inspection Editor. The Inspection Editor makes setting up data entry much easier because you don't need to know template commands. And for those Template gurus who create innovative and complex data collection processes, no need to worry. We made it easy to customize Inspections using Python scripts. Before we added Python scripts to Inspections, the only Python I knew was the snake. With just a little experience, I've found Python scripts easy to learn, and they seem more logical than template coding. So this month I decided to write about Python scripts because the more you know, the friendlier it becomes to you. Thus, my title: Three degrees of Python scripts. I thought it might be helpful to think about three degrees or levels of Python scripting skills.
A GainSeeker SPC Standard defines one characteristic of the part number, item, or process that you are studying. The SPC Standard must be created for each characteristic of a part before you can enter data and generate charts for that characteristic. Without a Standard you cannot store or retrieve data. You also cannot setup real-time alarms for your operators. The SPC Standard is a core foundation of SPC data and it is worth brushing up on.
Most people, when I talk with them concerning defects, are familiar with Pareto Charts. They pretty much go hand and hand. I get it, especially with GainSeeker's Pareto Charts you can easily drill-down into them. Not as many people utilize the DPU Charts and I thought it was time to showcase this feature, especially since we added second level grouping in GainSeeker Version 8.8!
When I am fortunate enough to go train our customers, one of the important "side notes" I mention is the fact that we rely on enhancement requests from YOU to help continue to growth of our software product. Throughout the years, customers asked about the ability to create their own custom statistic. If you are on a supported version of GainSeeker® (click here to find out) then you possess the ability to create your very own custom statistic!!!! The Custom Statistics Editor gives you the ability to create, edit, and use SPC or DMS statistics inside GainSeeker. These are created using Python scripts.
A Performance Chart helps define process capability by grouping data by a traceability value in a Box and Whisker format. This allows for quick visual comparison of data groups by mean and variation. Why don't you follow along with me and lets produce this chart together. In fact, I will show you two ways to produce this chart grouped by Traceability.
